Anika Nailah founded Books of Hope, a Boston-area youth literacy empowerment organization in 1999 that helped young people in a public housing project write, publish, and sell their own books. She directed it until 2004. The program was so popular that hundreds of youth became authors and recruited their family and friends. Books of Hope is still going strong.

Here is a video clip that tells the back story.
